About Le Moyne College:
Le Moyne College invites nominations and applications for the position of Controller, the principal accounting, tax, and financial reporting officer of the College. The next Controller will serve as a strategic partner to the campus community and to Le Moyne's Assistant Vice President for Finance during an exciting period of growth, renewal, and strategic investments for the College.
Le Moyne College is a Jesuit institution and part of a 27-college network of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU) which spans the US. Le Moyne is based in Syracuse, NY and is an institution with 3,200 undergraduate and graduate students housed in three schools: Arts & Sciences, the Madden School of Business, and the Purcell School of Continuing Studies. The College is led by President Linda LeMura, the first female, lay leader of a Jesuit institution, who has served as President for 9 years.
The College has an operating budget of $100 million, a capital budget of $15 million, an endowment of $240 million and is in sound financial condition with operating surpluses in five of the last six years (the exception being COVID in 2021). The VPFA is Joe Grasso who has had an extensive background in higher education finance and who joined Le Moyne 18 months ago from Cornell University.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Finance, the Controller serves as Le Moyne's principal accounting officer, overseeing financial and accounting functions in the following areas: financial statements, treasury operations, endowment accounting, taxes, debt management, student loans and bursar functions, payroll, accounts payable, internal controls, and other duties. The Controller functions as a strategic partner to both the VPFA and AVP of Finance, recognizing improvement opportunities and identifying and implementing best practices in order to benefit the College's short and long-term goals. Importantly, the College is implementing the Workday ERP system for Finance, HR, and Payroll, with a transition from Ellucian's Datatel system. The College has also formed two new 501-c-3 affiliated organizations to support collaborative engagements with other colleges and to support certain operations at the College.
The Controller will lead efforts in the preparation and management of financial forms and statements, audits, compliance, risk management, financial forecasting, and the daily accounting functions of the institution. The next Controller will also be responsible for leading and mentoring approximately 12 talented staff members. Other units within the Finance function include: Budgeting; Restricted Gifts and Grants; and Risk and Procurement. The Controller will have close working relationships with the Office of the Provost, Human Resources, Information Technology, Institutional Research, Facilities, and Admissions and Financial Aid.
The successful candidate will be an experienced accounting professional with a deep knowledge of non-profit accounting particularly in the areas accounting, tax, financial reporting. In addition, the successful candidate will be an effective, communicative, and collaborative leader who deeply values professional growth for their team.

Requirements
In addition, the successful candidate will possess many of the following experiences, capabilities, and personal attributes:
- A bachelor's degree is required. An MBA or other advanced degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is advantageous.
- At least five years of experience as an accounting professional is required; preference for experience in higher education or a public accounting firm with a higher education/nonprofit client base, or the equivalent is strongly preferred.
- A CPA license is required.
- Strong organizational, analytic, interpersonal, problem-solving, project management, and customer service skills.
- Experience in implementing a new ERP system, particularly Workday, with the attendant business process and change management work that is involved.
- Experience using a variety of data management tools including SQL, Tableau, and other analytical tools.
- Demonstrated experience in performing and overseeing the general ledger, fund accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, plant/capital accounting, endowment and debt accounting, and tax preparation.
- Ability to work collaboratively, to share information, and to effectively lead and develop staff. Commitment to the value of diversity in the workplace.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills based on accurate and timely analyses.
- Strong presentation skills and the capacity to organize and synthesize information for non-financial as well as financial audiences.
